Week Thirteen Composite top 25
With just two weeks left before Selection Monday, it is crunch time for teams fighting for hosting and Regional spots. We are recapping how this week's top 25 did last weekend!
Behind a 4-0 week, #1 UCLA remains at the top of the Composite Top 25 for the ninth straight week. The Bruins battled with Long Beach State in an extra innings, midweek affair, and easily dispatched Washington State on the road. Despite their perfect week, UCLA dropped from #1 to #2 in the RPI. Taking over the top spot in the RPI and moving up to the second spot in the Top 25 is #2 Vanderbilt. The Commodores scored a big win over Louisville in the midweek before earning two more ranked wins, taking two out of three from Missouri. #3 Stanford handled their rivalry series with Cal by winning two of three games on the road. The series gave Stanford two important top 50 RPI wins to bring their total up to four. With a 2-1 week, #4 Arkansas stands pat in the four spot. The Razorbacks hold a one game lead over #5 Mississippi State in the SEC West standings. The Bulldogs are coming off of an impressive sweep over rival Ole Miss. Mississippi State is 10-1 since being swept by Arkansas.
Representing the American Conference, #6 ECU clinched the regular season conference title with a series win over Wichita State this past weekend. The Pirates also scored a big midweek win over North Carolina, bolstering their top-eight seed resumé. Rivals #7 Georgia Tech and #8 Georgia fill the next two spots in the rankings. Georgia Tech secured their eighth straight ACC series victory by going on the road and winning two of three games at Duke, while Georgia took a series on the road at Auburn. #9 Louisville saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end with a midweek loss to Vanderbilt and a series loss to Virginia. The Cardinals are still holding on to the top spot in the ACC. Rounding out the top ten, #10 UCSB is the highest ranked mid-major. The Gauchos outscored Long Beach State 29-7 as they swept the Dirtbags in convincing fashion.
#11 through #25
Just outside the top ten, #11 Texas Tech had the weekend off but did earn a midweek win over Florida International. #12 Oregon State bounced back from their series loss against Oklahoma State to win a rivalry series against Oregon. The Beavers remain tied atop the Pac-12 standings with UCLA and Stanford. The #13 Baylor Bears had the weekend off but return to Big XII play with an important series at Oklahoma State next weekend. #14 Miami and #15 Oklahoma State both moved up five spots after winning weeks. The Canes went 3-1 with a series win against Wake Forest, while the Cowboys took down rival, Oklahoma.
Up next in this week's top 25 are back-to-back North Carolina teams with #16 NC State and #17 North Carolina. The Wolfpack took two out of three off Clemson to continue their solid, late season play; however, the Tar Heels faltered with a series loss at Pitt. NC State and North Carolina finish the regular season with a series in Chapel Hill. #18 Ole Miss starts a run of three straight SEC teams in the rankings that continues with #19 Texas A&M and #20 LSU. These three teams will be jockeying for a potential fifth SEC host site.
Holding on to the series win at Kansas State, #21 West Virginia maintains their spot in the rankings. #22 Florida State is up three spots after a non-conference sweep of Richmond. They finish with an important series at Louisville. Checking in as the eighth ranked team out of the SEC, #23 Missouri keeps a .500 conference record by winning one game against Vanderbilt. #24 Illinois was this week's biggest riser; they moved up seven spots after sweeping Purdue. #25 Arizona State barely stays in the rankings after a road series loss at Nebraska. The Sun Devils have lost three straight series and finish with Cal and Stanford.
Just outside the rankings and receiving votes are Indiana, BYU, Michigan, UC Irvine, Dallas Baptist, Tennessee, Central Michigan, and Fresno State. For more on Rankings, check out the Conference Power Rankings. Follow us on Twitter to keep up with all of our content!
